Good morning! So far in 2024, we’ve seen as many allegations, scandals, and investigations to fill an entire season of Judge Judy. This week? Just the President of the FIA being accused of not one, but two separate incidents…

Is this corruption? Maybe just a coincidental series of events? Or is it just the masters of ‘staying in the spotlight’ at it again… 🤔

Want to be a NASCAR Driver?

If you want to be a NASCAR driver, I have a sure-fire way for you to gather the skills needed. All the while being able to live an almost entirely normal life, never entering a racetrack and never having to put a 5th mortgage on your parents’ house. Now the skill set will only be applicable to Super Speedways, and the racing world may not take your CV seriously, but if you become adept at this, you’re without a doubt ready to challenge for a Harley J Earl trophy at the Daytona 500.

All you need to do is spend a week driving in Los Angeles. That’s it. One week of going from point A to B should prepare you for the type of offensive blocking, lane management, drafting, wreck avoidance, and overall on-the-edge driving you will need to be at the pointy end of the NASCAR Cup Series at a Super Speedway.

It’s unbelievable how similar the moves are. See a car stopped in the right lane, and there’s a car one car length behind you in the left lane? Don’t even think about merging. Before you can even say the word “blinker,” this car in the left lane will have dropped a gear and slammed the throttle, using the stopped car as a “pick” and most likely uttering something along the lines of “SUCKER!” Not dissimilar to using a lap car to your advantage at Daytona.

And you may be saying to yourself, “But, Parker, why?!?” The only thing I can think is that there is some unwritten award and payout for being first to the next stoplight and traffic jam. While people love to harp on the traffic in LA, and they have a point, it’s basically the 8th wonder of the world at this point. The level of aggression brought to simply driving down the street could teach a few NASCAR drivers how its really done.

Some of you may say, “Well, wouldn’t this mean they are all trying to be Max Verstappen?” No, see Max would be lost here as well. His races usually require a good pull away from the line, a late-braking move into T1, and a casual East Coast style Sunday drive. I can assure you; he’s never experienced the Los Angeles level of multi-lane, four-wide lane management and wheel-to-wheel action outside of his NASCAR Truck races on iRacing.

I’ve always said that nothing can prepare you for the competition and talent level at a NASCAR Cup Series Super Speedway race. Usually, I go as far as to say that it’s like a crash at every corner that just doesn’t happen because everyone’s so damn good. But I was so wrong.

Driving in LA not only can prepare you, but it’s basically a crash every second that does happen, and that’s part of the game. If you’re going to win the Super Speedway race of Hollywood Blvd, be prepared to wreck or be wrecked.

Do this correctly, and you are ready to be a NASCAR driver. Well, aside from the money part, but they have lots of that in LA too. Good luck!

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem finds himself in the spotlight once more. This time, it’s about allegations he tried to block the Las Vegas Grand Prix. 🚫🎰 BBC reports claim an internal investigation into these actions, despite Ben Sulayem’s assertions of improving ties with Formula One Management (FOM) 🤝.

This allegation comes just days after Sulayem was the subject of another internal investigation in which he was accused of having attempted to have a post-race penalty appointed to Fernando Alonso overturned. 🔁

“FOM has its points,” Ben Sulayem remarked, emphasizing a stronger partnership under his leadership. Yet, the BBC’s findings suggest a contrary effort to hinder the Las Vegas Street Circuit’s approval. ✅

While the FIA confirmed receiving a report on these “potential allegations,” they’re ensuring “due process is meticulously followed.” Amidst this, Ben Sulayem stands by his commitment to safety and sport, highlighting the crucial approval he gave for the Las Vegas track. 🛣️

“I care about the wellbeing of the drivers,” he stated, pointing to his driver-first mentality. Yet, with the drama unfolding and the FIA’s ongoing assessment, the race for clarity is just heating up. 🔍
