Hamlin Wants a Seat at the Table
During Daytona 500 Media Day, Denny Hamlin voiced a strong opinion that drivers and teams should have a greater influence in NASCAR’s decision-making processes. As a prominent figure in the racing world, both as a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing and co-owner of 23XI Racing, Hamlin’s perspective carries significant weight. He criticized the current system as monopolistic, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach to the sport’s direction. Highlighting the ongoing disputes over the Charter agreement and the allocation of broadcasting rights revenue for 2025, Hamlin expressed his belief that drivers should, at the very least, have a “seat at the table,” a position currently hindered by NASCAR’s selective inclusivity.
Hamlin also shared his thoughts on the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff format, proposing a revision to how the championship is decided. Rather than a single, winner-take-all race, he suggests extending the championship decider over three races to create a more equitable competition. According to Hamlin, this change would not only ensure a fairer determination of the champion but could also enhance television ratings by maintaining competitive tension across multiple events.
