Perez’s Growing Pains

Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez opened up about his adaptation journey to the revamped RB19. After starting 2023 on fire🔥 with two poles and two wins in five races, Perez admitted the RB19’s development sometimes “didn’t really suit me.”

He shared, “There are a lot of things that are so different. How you drive is completely different… You are able to do things that with a Force India you cannot do.” Adding that he often feels “a step or two behind.”

On pressure: “We started the year so high, so you’re thinking you are a championship contender, you’ve won two races. Then, all of a sudden, you feel like, ‘Ah, this weekend doesn’t feel like it did before’, so you’re losing confidence because you’re not fully confident with the car. In F1, if you’re not fully confident with a car at 250kph into a corner, then you are doubting a little bit more, and it’s what really happened in those moments.”

📈 Still, Perez is #2 in the championship after 13 races, with Verstappen leading by a wide margin. Red Bull 🚀 dominates the constructors’ list, way ahead of Mercedes.

End of an Era

Thank you to everyone who helped me accomplish my dream.

Kurt Busch, NASCAR legend with 776 Cup Series starts, is trading his racing gloves for the recliner. After a crash in 2022 sidelined him with a concussion, Busch never fully returned. 🚗💥 “Racing at NASCAR’s highest level requires every last bit of focus, heart, stamina and determination, and I know, right now, I can’t give what is required to compete at that level, week in and week out. So, I’m officially announcing my retirement from NASCAR Cup Series competition.” he reflected, and he’s bowing out to prioritize his health and new roles. His resume? Stellar. With 34 wins, 28 poles, and a big win at the Daytona 500 in 2017. 🏆

He’s not fading away, though. “I’ve appreciated the opportunity to remain actively involved with 23XI, Monster Energy, and the Toyota Racing family,” Busch noted. As he shifts gears, Busch’s legacy as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers remains intact. 🌟📜

Palou’s Déjà vu

McLaren Racing isn’t feeling the love after Alex Palou, the 2021 IndyCar champ, took a detour from his 2022 McLaren deal. Palou seemed set to join Arrow McLaren in ’24 but now is steering back to Chip Ganassi Racing. 🔄

CEO Zak Brown? Not thrilled. “Alex informed us he has no intention of honouring his contract… We have a contract so this is now in a legal process,” Brown said. He hinted at the unpredictability of F1: “Drivers can break their wrists in an instant.” 👀

Brown’s mood? 📉 “Very disappointing.” He emphasized the ‘fam feel’ at McLaren and said being left hanging wasn’t cool.

On track? McLaren eyes Patricio O’Ward for future tests while it’s “business as usual” for the season’s rookie runs.
