Motorsports is a Meritocracy

In the midst of the 2024 F1 season, Williams’ Team Principal, James Vowles, clarifies what American rookie Logan Sargeant needs to nail down his spot with the team. Having transitioned from Formula 2, Sargeant’s F1 career is yet to yield a point, with teammate Alex Albon bringing in all 21 points for Williams this year.

Vowles emphasized the competitive nature of F1 to Sargeant: “It’s a meritocracy, you’re not here just because we want you to be here, you have to earn your place… It’s how you earn your pathway into Formula 1.” For a racer with a few slip-ups already, it’s a clear call to up his game.

Though Sargeant’s 2024 seat remains unconfirmed, Vowles acknowledges his developmental trajectory: “In terms of where Logan is, he is on the right path… he has to just keep stepping it up race on race.”

On the brighter side, with Williams currently ranking seventh in the constructors’ standings, Vowles expressed contentment over the team’s progress, a leap from their 2022 performance. 📈👏🏼

Off to 🇺🇸 next year. Huge opportunity for me and so thankful to @JustinMarksTH and the @TeamTrackhouse family for giving me a shot in NASCAR. Can’t wait to get over there 😀

Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) is gearing up for a return to NASCAR in 2024. After making history as the first driver in 60 years to win his debut Cup Series start, the Kiwi sensation is solidifying his status with a move to Trackhouse’s developmental program next year.

“It is time for a new challenge and this adventure into NASCAR will be the biggest challenge of my career and one I’m really looking forward to,” SVG expressed.

His boss-to-be, Trackhouse founder Justin Marks, chimed in: “This is going to be a tremendous challenge for Shane but he is a tremendous driver… Next year will be about getting him acclimated.”

But before SVG goes full-throttle in the States 🇺🇸, he’s revving up for a title battle Down Under 🇳🇿. He trails just 137 points behind championship leader Brodie Kosteckie with the endurance rounds just ahead. 🏁

IndyCar’s New Negotiations

In the wake of the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series finale, the gears are shifting as Penske Entertainment prepares to negotiate a fresh broadcast and streaming contract, ✍️ with their current NBC deal set to expire in 2024. Riding a wave of resurgence, the CEO Mark Miles noted, “We have momentum, we have people who understand objectively that our metrics are positive and improving, and there are multiple platforms interested in our rights.”

The spotlight is on the escalating interest from streaming platforms. “They have more sports and live sports as part of their strategies,” said Miles, highlighting an expanded focus on sports by networks like The CW. The aim? Elevating television income while amplifying linear and streaming audiences. A bright horizon with potentially more lucrative deals beckons, 💰 as IndyCar leverages its positive trajectory to attract diverse broadcasting partners.📈
